C.A.R.E. is a non-profit, no-kill
animal shelter founded by Dr. Hal Ott of Ruskin Animal Hospital.
Along with a dedicated group of associates and community leaders
in the South Bay area, Dr. Ott provided the inspiration, leadership, and
much of the financial support to incorporate C.A.R.E. in 2000 and
to open our physical facility on 27th Street in Ruskin in mid-2001.
Our purpose is to rescue, provide shelter, medical care and adoption
of neglected, abused, and unwanted animals. We house approximately
40 cats and 11 dogs. The organization is lead by a board of directors.
Volunteers are the heart of the organization providing our animals
with clean living quarters, affection, exercise and the procurement
of funds and donations that keeps the center operational.
C.A.R.E. is located on a 3 acre parcel of land that was formerly
a pet motel; C.A.R.E. occupies several old module housing and concrete
block buildings that now house an office, kennel and cat house.
In April of 2003 we added a low-cost spay-neuter clinic in the kennel
and earlier this year we added a cat isolation trailer to house
our new "feline guests" while they are treated for any
illness prior to exposing them to the other cats in our open bay
cat adoption facility.
