Spring Brings Unwanted Litters
Springtime brings many new and wonderful things. Spring also brings many unwanted litters of cats and dogs. In shelters across the country,
there is nothing more tragic than seeing an unhealthy mother trying to care for her pups or kittens. Making the tough decision about whether
to keep her and her litter, in hopes of finding everyone a home, or destroying them is something most shelters face on an all too regular basis.
It is said that for every human being born in this country, there are seven dogs and cats born. Over 17 million cats and dogs are relinquished to
animal shelters every year. Out of every 10 only one will find a home. The rest of them, 13.5 million will be killed. By neutering or spaying our
pets, we can help the overpopulation. There are also many other benefits. For females, there is a reduction in the susceptibility to mammary
cancer and uterine infections. Males are less likely to want to wander the neighborhood and get into fights. Neutering makes them less aggressive
and reduces the likelihood of prostate infections and cancer. So overall, they are healthier.
Please make an appointment for your pet to be spayed or neutered, if you have not done so already. Not only will you and your pet be happier,
but you will have the satisfaction of knowing you have joined in the fight to stop the cycle of overpopulation -- of unwanted and possibly abused
pets, and the likelihood of ultimately meeting with death.
