2007 Volunteer Luncheon
Monday, February 12 was a special day for 48 volunteers at the CARE non profit, no kill animal shelter in Ruskin. It was a day they were treated
special and didn't have to CARE for the homeless pets at the shelter. A Board member was on duty at the shelter and, after chores, joined other
Board members to honor the volunteers with lunch at the Cypress Creek Golf Club in Sun City Center.
During the short program preceding lunch, volunteers were thanked by CARE Founder Dr. Hal Ott who shared his vision for the shelter and his
gratitude for the job volunteers did in 2006 by adopting 252 formerly homeless pets. CARE President Don Hinderliter followed Dr. Ott by presenting
several gag gifts to the Board members present and honored three current volunteers who accumulated the most hours in 2006. Honored were Miki
Janosky as CARE's Volunteer Coordinator; Mary Beth Cammilleri, who was presented the 2006 "Whiskey Award" for her work in the dog kennel and
Deborah Farrell, who was awarded the 2006 "Megyn Award", for working with the cats. Whiskey and Megyn are two special needs animals who have been
temporarily living at the shelter for several months pending their adoptions and gratefully allowed CARE to name the awards after them.
Volunteers at the lunch enjoyed meeting other volunteers who work different days than themselves, enjoyed sharing stories of their favorite
animals and appeared to enjoy their lunch. Tomorrow, it's back to work caring for the pets, nursing the sick ones back to health and socializing
them to approve their chances for adoption and a new - forever - home. Everyone committed to working even harder in 2007 for the sake of the
homeless animals!
