Fourth Annual Petfest of Ruskin

The 4th annual Ruskin PetFest, presented by the St. Petersburg Times to benefit C.A.R.E., attracted dog owners and pet lovers to spent a day full of fun and entertainment under a clear and sunny sky. While listening to live music, guests strolled through the grounds, visited vendors and enjoyed watching the dogs racing around.

Showing off their talents and the talents of their parents, dogs took the stage to compete with their fellow dogs in a pet fashion contest, a silly pet tricks contest and a pet owner lookalike contest. Two cats, Em and Scout Petee, challenged the dogs in the pet fashion contest. First prize, however, went to Brody and Katie Belcher, 1 ½ -year-old twins and to their cousins, 2 ½ -year King Louis, and 10-year-old d'Artagnan Earnest, parading as Easter basket dogs. Lilly Short, a 3 ½ -year-old bichon frise, quietly saying her prayers with her head buried between her front paws placed on a folding chair, won the silly pet tricks competition. Hoping their o wners had done a good job matching their appearances, dogs proudly strutted with their parents in front of the large audience at this year's lookalike contest. Two and a half-year-old Bailey Thomas, and his mom Kathy, who had slipped into a dog costume, copying Bailey, a Bedlington terrier, took home the win.

C.A.R.E.'s volunteers, some accompanied by their furry family members, gave out information about the shelter and its membership, sold auction tickets and said hello to former C.A.R.E.'s doggy residents.
