Lotus

A string of good luck helped a young black cat, lost and without family, to find her perfect home. Her friendliness, though, played a role in it, too. Wandering around a campground in Wimauma, she charmed a passerby to pick her up and try to find a place for her to stay. Brought to C.A.R.E., she was lucky to find room in the cat quarters and quickly befriended people coming to see her.

Wilfried Hohmann, browsing the telephone book for an animal shelter he could visit to find a furry companion, chose C.A.R.E. for a visit. Wanting to adopt a female cat with black fur, Wilfried set his eyes on Lotus, and her friendliness won him over. He became Lotus' new dad.

Although happy to have found a forever home, Lotus took a cautious approach to her new life. Arriving at her home, she warily crawled out of her carrier, only to make a dash for the bedroom, disappearing for good under the bed. No matter what Wilfried tried in order to coax her to come to him, she decided to stay out of sight.

However, before the day was over, Lotus got tired of crouching underneath the bed. To her relief, she heard her name called. Not wanting to miss the perfect chance to show her new dad she was just waiting for the right invitation, she scrambled from under the bed and started to explore her new home.

Having the run of the house, Lotus has found the ideal place for lounging. It's the top of the computer table hutch. It is not padded and has a hard top, the surface she prefers. Another one of Lotus' favorite places to relax is the courtyard. She picks out a shady spot for snoozing, her passion, and basks in the hot, fresh air.

Besides sleeping, she likes to play with her round, stuffed mouse, whacking it to make it roll to the other side of the room, then jumping after it and whacking it again. She also likes to get exercise by sprinting through the house from the front to the back, over and over again, imagining escaping a prowler.

On the leisure side, she relishes having her face stroked, and she enjoys sitting at the window and watching the cars go by.

Lotus is a good listener and also very good in communicating, letting her dad know when she wants bathroom service. After having used her litter box and thinking it's time for a cleaning, she takes off from it like a flash, running away from it as fast and far as she can. However, her attempt to convince her dad to become an early riser like she, waking him up before he has to get up, backfired. Instead of sleeping on his bed, she now spends the night on the carpet in front of a closed bedroom door.
