"They selected me, they were just cute," Vickie Holt said about her trio of cats she adopted from C.A.R.E.
Vickie Holt grew up with dogs but later fell in love with cats. A friend told her about C.A.R.E., and Vickie visited the shelter
to look at cats without the intent of adopting. If she decided, though, to take a pet home, it would be a cat. In the cat room, she
saw a male kitten with short hair she really liked and then, she spotted Tiki, a grown cat, and everything changed.
"I only saw the orange tail, the cat was very timid," Vickie said.
Vickie started talking to the cat, and in a little while he came out and jumped on her lap. Vickie knew right away she wanted that
cat. So, she decided to adopt the kitten, named Cupid, she later renamed Binki, and the grown cat Tiki. Then her friend told her she
couldn't just adopt one kitten, it has to be two. That's when Kiwi, formerly Kenlyn, a female kitten from a stray mother, lucked out
and found a new permanent home with the same mom as Tiki and Binki.
"In the beginning, I didn't know if they would get along. I left the cat in the house and the kittens in the Florida room," Vickie
said. When she was home, she let all three roam together. They first hissed at each other but in about two weeks they got over the
initial hurdle and accepted each other.
Now, all three are staying in their playroom, the Florida room, where they have their condo and their toys. They all play together
and are very happy. Vickie said, "They brought me a lot of happiness and we are all fine."
She admitted that her cats are the trainer in the household. They might have learned the craft out of the cat encyclopedia Vickie
kept on the table. She said one day, she caught Tiki jumping on the table and burrowing his head in the book as if he was reading it.
